Chix 4 a Cause extends a resounding thank you to the Gannett Foundation for our $2,000 grant! Jillian Clark, Founder/CEO of Chix 4 a Cause, and Jennifer Wills, Fund Development Director, happily received the grant check during a February 7, 2019 reception at Mason Street Grill in Downtown Milwaukee. The ladies enjoyed getting to know leaders of the foundation and leaders of other nonprofit organizations in the area who received a grant. Grant money will be used to promote Gifts of Love Boxes.

Gifts of Love Boxes include essential oils specially blended for cancer patients, a diffuser for essential oils, meditation CD, Cure magazine, votive candle, prayer shawl, prayer book for cancer patients, and more. Customized Gifts of Love, such as gas or grocery cards unique to the individual’s wants and needs, may be included as well.

When going through cancer, remember to involve support from your friends. Research shows that friends are an essential part of healing your mind, body, and spirit while fighting the disease. You also increase your chances of living longer by getting help from people you care about.

According to David Spiegel, M.D., Associate Chair of Psychology at Stanford University, men who are married tend to live longer because they talk about their feelings with their wife and feel more comfortable crying. Women who regularly nurture relationships with their girlfriends also tend to live longer. Female time invested with girlfriends produces more serotonin in the brain, which helps to combat depression.
